Dental implant Las Vegas
Tooth loss is a common occurrence and getting a dental implant Las Vegas specialist to replace missing teeth is the best option there is. Dental implants have become the gold standard for restoring lost teeth. This is because they address the shortcomings of the other tooth replacement options like dentures and bridges by offering a lasting solution.
Although implants are more expensive, they offer numerous benefits such as;
Benefits of dental implants
First and foremost, dental implants are very convenient since they eradicate the discomfort of removable dentures. You don’t have to be self-conscious when speaking or eating for fear of them slipping. Eating, therefore, becomes less of a hassle since the implants function like normal teeth. Additionally, you don’t have to deal with adhesives to hold the prosthetic in a place like dentures. Dental implants are very durable because of how they are fixed. The oral surgeon will surgically place them in the jawbone, and after healing, the implant is strong enough to support a fixed crown or a dental bridge. Dental bridges were a favorite for replacing multiple teeth but have one big disadvantage; they have to be supported by adjacent teeth. Implants overcome this shortcoming since they don’t interfere with other neighboring healthy teeth. Finally, implants resemble and act like normal teeth improving the patient’s appearance.
Preliminary stages of dental implants procedure
When patients hear that their dental implant Las Vegas dentist will drill a metal implant into their jaw, they usually envision a painful procedure. However, local anesthesia is used, and you will feel no pain. Before the dentist places an implant, the overall health of your gums and mouth will be evaluated. If the jaw bone tissue is not thick enough, the dentist will schedule a grafting procedure to increase the bone density. The bone density reduces over time due to tissue deterioration which happens when a tooth has been missing for an extended period. Bone grafts are placed and a healing period is allocated. When the bone tissue is healthy and thick enough, the dentist makes an incision on the gum and cuts the bone underneath to create space for the implant. The area is left to heal for a few months and fuses with the implant for a strong and stable hold in a process called osseointegration. A denture can be used to obscure the metal post that protrudes above the gum line.
Crown placement and healing
After the metal post (implant) has fused with the jaw bone, the oral surgeon will add the abutment, a screw onto which the crown will be fixed. The crown (prosthetic tooth) is then screwed onto the implant. This type of implant is called an endosteal implant which means it’s in the bone. Subperiosteal implants were used in the past and rested on the jawbone; but they are no longer used since endosteal implants offer long-term benefits. Endosteal implants can support a single fixed crown, a removable denture or a dental bridge. When a full arch of teeth has to be replaced, e.g., upper or lower jaw, one doesn’t have to get implants for every tooth. All-on-four implants can be used where four strategically placed implants can support a whole arch of prosthetic teeth.
